Recently, a real war broke out in the linux world between the supporters of x11 and wayland, and the supporters of x11 look like Luddites who do not want to accept anything new.

The x11 technology was developed in 1982 and has been actively developing since 2012, now the usual patches and fixes are being released. The joke is that x11 is a complete nightmare from the point of view of developers, the core has hardly been recycled, it doesn't even know what a graphics card is, it's overgrown with a bunch of plug-ins that have become dependent on each other, and all this soup has supporters.

The development of wayland began in 2008, and the first version was released in 2012. Wayland fixed the key errors of x11, it does not go where it was not called (For example, x11 did many things from font rendering to video card resource allocation, but it was given to the linux kernel)

Arguments of x11 supporters:

1. Wayland is a corporate prank to control linux!- it would be funny to say that the development of x11 was sponsored by intel, hp, nokia, red hat and novell, and more than 85% of the contributions to the development of the linux kernel were made by IBM and other large companies.

2. Wayland is being forcibly pushed through! - unfortunately, this is true, but at one time they also pushed x11 and its predecessor xfree86.

3. Wayland has problems! - yes, it is, but they do not slow down the development. x11 greatly slowed down the development of linux for games and other things due to its workload

And what is the result? The x11 era is coming to an end. Ubuntu (and its "flavors"), kde, gnome are gradually abandoning x11, it has severely slowed down linux in development, and even wayland, with its problems, is a better alternative.
